Mid-frontal Theta during Conflict in a Value-based Decision Task

چکیده
Abstract Mid-frontal theta is a sensitive marker for cognitive conflict. However, most research focuses on control paradigms (e.g., the Flanker task). Here, we ask if mid-frontal also to response conflicts within value-based decision-making. We recorded electroencephalography activity during binary decision task. In this task, participants collected rewards in virtual two-dimensional world. each trial, presented two reward options that were either quick collect but smaller value, or took longer larger value. The subjective value of option was driven by options' and how quickly it could be reached. used task investigate three types potential conflicts: choice ambiguity, repetitions, temporal delay. manipulated ambiguity varying values options. For repetition, biased toward one trials then tested affected subsequent decision. delay making collect. behavioral results showed expected effects: Decision times shorter unambiguous choices, tendency repeat previous earlier available choices. Response-locked power increased switches as compared later option, found no effect ambiguity.

Challenges of Interpreting Frontal Neurons during Value-Based Decision-Making
The frontal cortex is crucial to sound decision-making, and the activity of frontal neurons correlates with many aspects of a choice, including the reward value of options and outcomes. However, rewards are of high motivational significance and have widespread effects on neural activity. As such, many neural signals not directly involved in the decision process can correlate with reward value. ...
متن کاملFrontal Theta Dynamics during Response Conflict in Long-Term Mindfulness Meditators
Mindfulness meditators often show greater efficiency in resolving response conflicts than non-meditators. However, the neural mechanisms underlying the improved behavioral efficiency are unclear. Here, we investigated frontal theta dynamics-a neural mechanism involved in cognitive control processes-in long-term mindfulness meditators. The dynamics of EEG theta oscillations (4-8 Hz) recorded ove...
متن کاملFrontal beta-theta network during REM sleep
We lack detailed knowledge about the spatio-temporal physiological signatures of REM sleep, especially in humans. By analyzing intracranial electrode data from humans, we demonstrate for the first time that there are prominent beta (15-35 Hz) and theta (4-8 Hz) oscillations in both the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and the DLPFC during REM sleep. We further show that these theta and beta acti...

Theta lingua franca: a common mid-frontal substrate for action monitoring processes.
We present evidence that a multitude of mid-frontal event-related potential (ERP) components partially reflect a common theta band oscillatory process. Specifically, mid-frontal ERP components in the N2 time range and error-related negativity time range are parsimoniously characterized as reflections of theta band activities. Forty participants completed three different tasks with varying stimu...
